The Spay Me! Clinic is looking for a full-time medical director to focus to our surgical program. The Spay Me! clinic is a program of Shelter from the Storm Animal Rescue Founded in 2005. We operate with a mission of providing affordable veterinary care to all animals regardless of their owners financial situation. Our surgical program consists of High volume spay/neuter, soft tissue surgeries such as mass removals, cystotomies, Perineal urethrostomy ophthalmic surgeries such as enucleation, entropion, cherry eyes, orthopedic surgeries such as extracapsular ACL repairs, FHOs, amputations, and fracture repairs.
The Spay Me! Clinic has digital radiology, excellent surgical monitoring capabilities. Highly trained Veterinary technicians, in house and outside laboratory capabilities (ANTECH). We have two surgical suites, one dedicated to orthopedic and other sterile surgeries.
Supervises and provided the highest quality medical care possible to pets served through the Spay Me! Clinic in a humane and professional manner and in accordance with established policies and procedures. Provide oversite and mentorship of all veterinary staff including staff and relief veterinarians, veterinary technicians and assistants. Provide expertise and advice to the Executive Director and Clinic Manager regarding veterinary medical policies, procedures and issues as they relate to achievement of organizational goals.
Develop, implement, and monitor medical programs that improve the standard of animal and veterinary care.
Collaborate with staff and other departments to ensure the clinic’s operations are conducted using appropriate and up-to-date medical practices.
Supervise and mentor staff Veterinarians and Veterinary interns.
Create training programs for staff Veterinarians and Veterinary interns.
Maintain a culture of collaboration and teamwork among the Veterinary team. Coach junior veterinarians.
Serve as a liaison promoting the Clinic’s philosophy and goals to veterinarians, vendors, the public, and other animal welfare related organizations.
Perform surgical procedures on a daily basis including high quality, high volume spay/neuter, dentistry, and various soft tissue and orthopedic procedures.
Perform veterinary medical functions including examination and treatment of shelter, rescue and owned animals. Perform necropsies as needed.
Perform euthanasia occasionally. Certify others to perform euthanasia.
Develop SOPs and ensure they are updated and practiced with staff and volunteers.
Assist with development of the annual budget.
Recruit, hire, develop, coach and counsel veterinarians.
Monitor and evaluate departmental/area processes and procedures to maximize efficient uses of resources.
Participate in inter-departmental meetings and discussions to support and develop Spay Me! Clinic initiatives.
Qualifications: DVM degree required, shelter medicine experience or high volume spay/neuter experience preferred, must be positive, flexible, and work well with coworkers and the public, availability to work occasional weekend and holiday hours if needed, experience working in fast paced, high volume setting is preferred, must be committed to treating animals with kindness and respect.
