Small animal practice seeks licensed veterinary technician. South Towne Veterinary Hospital is located in Rochester NY. Rochester, or as it’s also known, The Flower City, is located in the beautiful western area of New York state. Rochester sits on the southern shore of one of five great lakes, Lake Ontario. South Towne Veterinary Hospital is a fast paced hospital that is looking to grow. We offer our services to a variety of species including cats, dogs, birds, reptiles and pocket pets. Here you’ll find a family-like close knit team of veterinary professionals with a wide range of knowledge, abilities and experience. We employ three skilled veterinarians, six highly experienced licensed technicians, several friendly receptionists, a few animal loving kennel attendants and helpful veterinary assistants. We offer an array of services to our clients and patients including on site ultrasound, laser surgical services, dental x-rays and cleanings, grooming and boarding.
Our desire to expand has caused the need for us bring on another team member. We are looking for a motivated licensed veterinary technician with excellent time management skills and a desire to grow with us to our fullest potential. Experience is a plus but not a requirement. It is imperative that this candidate is able to perform at a high level of care under stressful and potentially dangerous situations. Daily tasks include assisting the doctors with their needs, whether it is restraining a patient for an exam or monitoring anesthesia during a surgery, client education and nursing care. Our technicians perform dental cleanings on anesthetized patients, take and process radiographs and assist with ultrasound procedures. Technicians are responsible for collecting various specimens for laboratory testing including blood, urine and cytology samples. We possess the ability to run many laboratory tests in hospital including complete blood counts, chemistries, in hospital urine and fungal cultures. Our technicians are skilled at performing urinalysis, examining stool samples for parasitic infections, skin and ear cytology’s, preparing various stains for doctor analysis. Technicians are responsible for preparing samples in a timely manner to be sent to various outside laboratories on a daily basis. In-patient care consists of carrying out the doctors orders, placing IV catheters, administering medication, taking vitals, bandage and incision care as well as monitoring the patient throughout the day while keeping the doctor informed.
This is a part time position that requires 2-3 Saturdays per month, one holiday in our kennel and two inventory counts per year.
The hours are as follows:
Monday 2 pm - Close
Tuesday 12 pm -5 pm
Wednesday 8 am - 2 pm
Thursday 3 pm - Close
Saturday 8 am - Close (2-3 required per month)
Also, fill in availability is REQUIRED. This position has room for growth to Full Time in the future. Wages will be based on experience. The candidate must be licensed by NYS.
Must be licensed in New York State.
Additional Salary Information: Pay based on experience.
