**Newtown Vet operates on a 2 technician, 1 doctor method for each and every surgery, enabling one surgical tech to be solely focused on monitoring the anesthetized patient from start to finish, from induction to extubation, and remaining present throughout recovery. Surgical technicians MUST be proficient in monitoring the different planes of anesthesia, troubleshooting if patient is too light or too deep, and recovering the patient back to coherency.**
Qualified applicants will be licensed veterinary technicians with 3+ years experience in anesthesia. They will be able to perform the following tasks: Admitting and discharging surgical patients Properly restraining animals IV catheter placement and blood withdrawals from cephalic, saphenous, and jugular veins on both dogs and cats Drug calculations and administration with strong understanding of the affect on a patient, how the body will metabolize the drug, drug interactions, and side effects Post-op patient care, and ability to recognize normals vs abnormals Pain recognition in dogs and cats Approaching emergencies accurately and calmly Monitoring and trouble shooting EKGs - recognizing normal; knowing all parts of an EKG; knowing abnormal complexes, what they are called and how to proceed anesthetically; pulse ox; indirect blood pressure via automated blood pressure monitors; and Doppler. Induction with anesthetic injectables and maintaining patients with Isoflurane Intubation, maintenance and extubation Running blood on the Idexx lab(catalyst, cbc, snap test dx, and U/A analyzer) Reading urinalysis sediment slide, fecal s, ear smears, skin scrapes and mite checks Dental scaling, charting, polishing, recognizing normal oral anatomy vs. abnormal Taking dental radiographs and trouble-shooting Critical thinking and problem-solving Interacting professionally and compassionately with clients, patients, and coworkers Communicating clearly and effectively with doctors, staff, and clients
Scheduling requirements: Full-time employees will work 30-40 hours/week. Surgical shifts begin at 6:50am, and techs must have the flexibility to work until procedures are complete. Saturday hours are rotational, and surgical techs will work 1-2 evening shifts each week, assisting in appointments and administering treatments for hospitalized post-op patients.
Additional Salary Information: Salary is negotiable, but will be commensurate with experience.
