This is a full time, relief position for 12 months. Our resident DVM is being deployed on military leave starting in February. We are looking for an individual who can fill his role during deployment in our academic setting. This is a temporary 12 month position that could turn into a permanent position. This is negotiable.

Responsibilities of this position may include:
Oversee all aspects of shelter animal use for education purposes
Solicit input from instructors as to animal needs for classes
Perform the initial intake examination of animals obtained, formulate the diagnostic and/or treatment plan, direct the implementation of the plan according to the instructional needs of classes, manage progress and amend the plan as needed, monitor animal records for accuracy and proper SOAP format, and complete the discharge information
Oversee the performance of CVTs in procedures requiring the supervision of a DVM. Perform surgery and other special procedures that require a DVM license; make diagnoses, write prescriptions, and sign health, sterilization, and rabies certificates as indicated and/or work with adjunct DVM instructors to accomplish the same
Collaborate with Resident Veterinarian and Program Chair to devise procedures and policies for the campus Veterinary Technology Department toe ensure compliance with IACUC and USDA regulations regarding the use of animals. Assist the Program Chair in maintaining facilities and documentation in accordance with regulations. Train and supervise staff and student adherence to the policies.
Assist the Program Chair with efforts involved in maintaining AVMA accreditation:
Maintain current knowledge of the Accreditation Policies and Procedures of the AVMA Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities (CVTEA)
Help the Program Chair as needed with required documentation, annual or biennial program evaluations, and self-evaluation reports
Support the Program Chair or the assigned CVT in fulfillment of DEA and other federal and state regulations
Serve as a knowledgeable resource for all animal-related issues and program-specific topics; field questions from current and former students, and fellow instructors

Must have graduated from an AVMA accredited program
Must have valid, current state license to practice veterinary medicine
Four years experience in the field required
Teaching experience preferred
